Born in Costa Rica and living in Canada for the past 32 years, Maikor currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. From an early age, he developed a deep fascination with the arts, beginning with a background in visual art that gradually expanded into animation, illustration, and sculptural work. Over time, that creative foundation evolved into a multidisciplinary practice centered on storytelling, character creation, and transformation through visual and physical media.
Among Maikor’s earlier projects are Maikor’s Fairy Tales, reimagined with a modern twist and presented in the fall of 2012 and 2013, as well as the Everyone’s Dead series, which began in 2013 and continues today. This ongoing body of work explores character from alternative perspectives, encouraging viewers to form a more intimate, personal, and emotional connection with the figures portrayed. At the heart of his work is the belief that, regardless of the narrative behind an illustration, it is ultimately the viewer who determines the aftermath of the story being told.
Today, Maikor’s focus continues to grow through character-driven illustration, sculpture, and special effects design. His work includes SPFX makeup, prosthetic fabrication, and prop building for film and television, bringing imagined creatures and concepts into tangible form. Alongside his visual and sculptural practice, he is currently developing a graphic novel and writing original horror stories.
His passion for storytelling also extends into audio. Maikor is the creator and producer of Nictofobia: ¿A Qué Temes?, a Spanish-language horror podcast where he narrates eerie and unsettling stories from across Ibero-America and from Hispanic communities around the world. He is also preparing to launch a second podcast dedicated to narrating his own original creations, further expanding his artistic voice across illustration, sound, and narrative storytelling.
